It is important that as you build teams that the health of the team not only maintained but excelled as we endeavor to build healthy, growing and functioning teams. In life, to maintain health or to become more healthy, we often take vitamins. Here are a few simple principles, or vitamins that when applied, will help maintain and boost team health.

1. Be Generous.

If team members are willing to give themselves generously to the team, then it will be set up to succeed. Leaders champion the cause of generosity and it starts with you. Model generosity in your words and actions. Encourage and build up others by acknowledging their hard work and effort towards team success.

2. Avoid Internal Politics.

Good team players worry about the benefit of their teammates more than themselves. Politics exist when their is a demand on limited resources. The focus should be on what is best for the team and not for personal achievement and recognition. Do you best to avoid internal politics which leads to negative team tension and relationships.

3. Display Loyalty.

If you show the people on the team loyalty, they will return loyalty in kind. Loyalty fosters unity and breeds team success. When teams go through stressful times, loyalty and unity between team members will lead to the team successfully navigating the pressures of business while relying on one another. This will strengthen the organization and increase the value of the team as a whole.

4. Value Interdependence more than Independence.

In the United States, we value independence highly because it is often accompanied by innovation, hard work and a willingness to stand for what’s right. But independence taken too far is a characteristic of selfishness, especially if it begins to harm or hinder others. Simply stated, you must live for others. Interdependence builds strength and value in teams increasing the rate of success.
